How to do a Magic Ring for Crochet - Video Tutorial

Magic Ring - Basic Technique for Crocheting in the Round
I am over the moon excited to be releasing my first ever You Tube Video!
How to crochet a Magic Ring - Video Tutorial
Yes that's right, I now have a You Tube Channel The Apple Tree Crochet (follow the link to subscribe). I will be posting video tutorials on how to; crochet/knit techniques and stitches as well as free patterns.
My husband is a super handy, super techy, super great guy! He spent all weekend helping me set up a studio in our basement for recording videos and taking photos.

Having somewhere permanent to work is SO much better then setting everything up only to have to pack it all away every time I want to take a photo or make a video of my knitting or crochet creations.
I have so many ideas, patterns, creations, tricks and tips that I have learned/developed over the years that now I can begin to share more frequently and with ease.
Look out world, it's time to create!

Too Cute Washcloth and Scrubby All-In-One

Crochet Scrubby - Free Pattern

Crocheted washcloths are a timeless piece.
I remember my grandmother making washcloths by the dozen. As soon as she would get one made, someone would come along and scoop it up.
I myself, have made many different washcloths and scrubbies and have never been left with one to spare.
I was wandering through the yarn isles at Michaels the other day (always a dangerous idea), when I spotted scrubby yarn.

I stopped dead in my tracks and did a double take. WHAT?! Scrubby yarn! YES PLEASE!

I had no idea what I was going to do with the scrubby yarn, but I NEEDED it!
Later that evening, I was trying to decide what kind of scrubby I wanted to make with my new scrubby yarn.
 I like using scrubbies for tough to wash dishes and washcloths for the rest. Too bad I couldn't get an all-in-one washcloth and scrubby combo...…..Wait  a minute, I'm the maker, I can make an all-in-one washcloth and scrubby combo.

For my all-in-one washcloth and scrubby design I …

My New Favorite Knit Shawl

How to Make this Amazing Knit Shawl

I absolutely LOVE making shawls/ neck wraps. I have tried various different patterns of shawls in the past. Some crocheted and some knit, but I have to say this pattern is by far my favorite one to date.
The linear design of this pattern is what attracted me to it. It just looks so simple and stylish. Not to mention the fringe. I mean seriously, who doesn't love fringe. It's such a cute way to give it that little extra something.
Other shawl patterns that I have tried in the past have either turned out way too big or just a little bit too small to wrap nicely with the perfect draped look to it. This shawl drapes perfectly on me when I wear it and doesn't feel too big or bulky.

I found this pattern on Pinterest one day when I was in search of the perfect neck wrap. I was looking for something quick, easy and stylish and this pattern at Fine Craft Guild was exactly what I was looking for.

Teacher Appreciation Gift - Free Crochet Pattern

Apple Dishcloth - Free Crochet Pattern
Wow! Where has the time gone? Another year of school is almost over. Maybe it is because this year has been jam packed full of exciting changes for us that it seems to have flown by. Since the beginning of September we have; busted our butts on home renovations, sold a house, went on house hunting trips, purchased a new house, moved across Canada, unpacked and started on more home renovations.
I've got to hand it to my kids, the have been really amazing with the whole transition. Moving in the middle of a school year is not an easy thing to do. My (almost 13 year old) daughter was my biggest concern because thirteen is a really difficult age to start over with friends and school. Astonishingly, I just attended an end of year assembly this morning where she received an award for her character...…Gotta' say I'm a pretty proud momma at the moment.
Not only was I blessed with amazing kids, but we have also been blessed with finding a w…

Easy and Quick Mother's Day Gift

Easy 20 minute Mother's Day Gift!

Oh and did I mention it is also inexpensive.

Time is of the essence in my household. I just recently relocated and have spent the last month moving, unpacking and getting my family settled into their new surroundings.

With Mother's Day just around the corner I needed a super quick and easy idea that didn't break the bank. For one gift I made a jute owl basket and filled it with dishcloths and pot scrubbers.

I wanted to add a little something more. So I decided to make a jute pot holder with the left over jute twine I had purchased from the local dollar store.

Here is what I came up with;

Quick and Easy Jute Pot Holder Pattern;

Materials you will need are;

*crochet hook K (6.5mm)
*yarn needle
*jute twine (I found mine at dollarama)

To start begin with a magic ring;

Round 1: Chain 4 ( this counts as a double crochet plus chain 1 -2sts-)
*Double crochet 1, then chain 1* repeat directions between the * for a total of 9 times. Join …

Custom Fabric Labels for Crochet and Knit Items of Any Kind

Where'd you get those labels from?  For me, the final touches are just as important as creating the piece or project. For a while after I started selling my crochet and knit pieces, I wanted to find the perfect label. I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted other then something that would make the piece look finished and professional. Something that told people that I, The Apple Tree Crochet, made that item. Something that tells people that I take pride in what I create because I put my name on it.

So the search to find the perfect label began. Wooden or leather labels came to mind first because that is what I was seeing everywhere on social media and it also seemed to be my only choice for knit or crochet pieces. I spent countless nights mulling over my options but none of them seemed to be exactly what I was looking for.  Eventually, I settled on ordering custom wooden labels.

These labels were very nice, but not really what I was looking for. I wasn't able to fit my full …

How to Crochet a Hat in ANY size, using ANY stitch with ANY yarn

2 Things that once you know you can crochet a hat in ANY size, using ANY stitch with ANY yarn I often have people asking if I can make a hat similar to one that they found online. I am usually quick to say yes without even looking to see if a pattern exists because I have a hard time saying no and because I love a challenge.
This past Halloween I had a local shop owner send me a picture of a Poppy the Troll hat that she had found online and was wanting to add to her shop. For inspiration, I googled a picture of Poppy the Troll, the cartoon character and quickly got to work on creating my own version of the hat. Here is what I came up with;

In my early days of crocheting I often relied heavily on using a pattern, but over the years I have learned 2 important things that once you know you can create your own crochet hat in any size, using any stitch with any yarn.

**The following information is based on crocheting a hat from the top down.***

The first thing you should know when croche…

Crochet Chair Socks Free Pattern

How to Crochet Chair Socks, Free Pattern I am excited and a little nervous to be writing this blog post. I have wanted to blog and share my patterns and newly learned knowledge for crocheting for the longest time now,but the idea was kind of overwhelming for me. Where do I start? What do I write about? Will people like it? Will it be useful if there is already information exactly like it on the world wide web?

Ugh! So much overthinking!

No more overthinking for this gal.....okay I will probably still think about it way to much and for the first few posts I will probably write something and delete it 100 times, but at least I am doing it.

I will be posting about current projects, interesting information that I have gathered through various sources and products that I have tried and liked or not liked.

One of the many projects that I currently have on the go guessed it. Chair Socks. A friend messaged me a picture of some chair socks that her cousin saw and liked and asked i…
